Local product

Catalonia benefits from a great diversity of food and high-quality products from its countryside, pastures and sea. Some of these local products have received the official European labels, ‘Protected Designation of Origin’ (PDO) or ‘Protected Geographical Indication’ (PGI), for their excellence and character.

Local agri-food produce from our territories reaches kitchens and pantries via a very reduced supply chain, direct from Catalan producers. The term ‘proximity sales’ refers to the sale of agri-food products – whether from arable or livestock farming, or resulting from the processing or transformation of such raw ingredients – from producers to the end consumer, be it directly or via the intervention of an intermediary.

All the farms and businesses participating in the ‘Benvingut a Pagès tot l’any’ initiative hold the Catalonia Proximity Sales Seal, which allows them to sell their products directly or via very short chains.
